Two Days of "Open Eyes" , February 5, 2008

Fr. Manuel Plaza, SJ spent two days with the Assumption Sisters' CGP speaking on the theme of  "The Mystique of Open Eyes."

It’s a way of looking that is full of hope: “Let us not be afraid of rapid changes, galloping globalization, a halting economy and an isolationist individualism. Religious life has never been so prophetic or meaningful while [at the same time] it is also more and more buried, hidden, seemingly without any power, aging. It’s necessary to recognize today that religious life is pioneering and avant-garde: experiences of inter-congregational communities, shared apostolic projects, inclusive communities, outside of the ‘First World.’

The great contribution of religious life is dialogue, mercy, respect, and democracy in all its diversity. There is a call to live, an authentic pascal mystery. It is essential to live and to transmit a hope that is living and full of meaning. Vaclav Havel said: ‘It is not the certainty that all will end well, but the certainty that all that we’re doing is meaningful; we forget the result.’ The meaning of our lives is the mystery of God, this “why” for which we don’t have words. We are not the sole authors of our stories.”

Thus during these two days, the provincials have cultivated open eyes, attentive ears, and opened hearts, ready to plunge into the concrete realities of the provinces.
