St. Benoit sur Loire
CGP Takes A Break, February 10, 2008
On the first Sunday of Lent the General Council and Provincials took a break from their work and left Paris for the beautiful French countryside. Their destination: the monastery of St. Benedict on the Loire (St. Benoit sur Loire) in Orleans.
A convoy of five cars brought the Sisters on a lovely sunny day to the monastery in time for the 11:00 a.m. Mass. The worshipping community of forty monks and many lay people welcomed the CGP and invited them to participate in the presentation of the gifts. Through Sisters Marie Christine (Vietnam) and Cesarie (Rwanda-Chad), the peoples of Asia and Africa were represented in this Eucharistic celebration.
Lunch was at Sully, across from the Chateau. The sun accompanied the group all the way, hinting that spring was on its way.
Then a return to the monastery for the office of None in the crypt where St. Benedict's remains lie. Afterwards, a wonderful tour led by Fr. Hubert who knew every historical detail of this seventh century house of God. It was a delight to listen to his stories.
Back to the Motherhouse in the evening -- grateful for the beauty of the day after ten days of intensive work. The second week of the CGP begins the day after and on a very important topic: finances!
