Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives, July 16, 2008

After responding to the immediate needs of the Typhoon Fengshen victims for food and medical help, the Religious of the Assumption in the Philippines have begun the more difficult task of rehabilitation.  With your help, houses are being built for those families in Iloilo and Antique who lost everything to floodwaters and winds.

The houses are being built using traditional construction materials: wood and bamboo for the floor, walls and roof. Each house is 20 square meters, the usual size in rural Philippines.  Some houses will be built on concrete pillars, securing them against future floods. For maximum security, the pillars will be reinforced with iron.  Each house will cost approximately $450.

Thank you for the help that you've already given.  Your generosity is enabling many families to begin life anew.  Maraming salamat po!
