St. Marie Eugenie
St. Marie Eugenie Milleret Lecture, Assumption College, October 8, 2008
Assumption College in Worcester, MA presents "Catholic Identity and Mission: What (in Heaven's Name) are we Talking About?" on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Salon of La Maison Francaise. Margaret O'Brien Steinfels, co-director of the Fordham University Center on Religion and Culture, will present the St. Marie Eugénie Milleret Lecture. This event is free and open to the public.
The life of Marie Eugénie Milleret exemplifies the notion that one person can make a difference. Born to wealth and privilege in early 19th century France, she'd seen her life change radically after the divorce of her parents and the death of her mother. Raised without faith, at 18 she had experienced a profound religious conversion. By 22, she'd founded the Religious of the Assumption, a religious congregation of women whose goal was (and is) to transform society through education - especially of women. In June 2007, she was proclaimed a saint (canonized) by Pope Benedict XVI.
