News from Assumption Japan and Request for Prayer, March 18, 2011

Many thanks to those of you who have asked about our Sisters in Japan, following the earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Sr. Diana, Superior General of the Religious of the Assumption, has asked all Sisters and friends of the Assumption to be united in prayer for Japan on March 19th, the Feast of St. Joseph. Assumption Sisters throughout the world will be praying for Japan during adoration, and we invite each one who reads this page to join us in prayer in whatever way possible.

Sr. Diana says, "We pray that God will give the people in Japan the necessary courage and strength to act in solidarity with one another and with all those who are working hard to resolve the nuclear reactor problems."

On March 13th Sister Makoto, the provincial of Japan, wrote to assure us that the Sisters are all well. She described the ongoing effects of the earthquake, and asked for continued prayers for their nation. (click here to read her letter)

She also wrote on March 16th, describing the situation of people in the evacuation centers, including that in our school gymnasium.  (click here to read her second letter)

Thank you for your concern for our Sisters.  Let us continue to pray for the Japanese people.
