In the Southwest border area of the United States, we live and work among the immigrant population of the colonia of Chaparral in the Diocese of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Sisters run educational and recreational programs for area children and youth, advocate for immigrant rights, teach English as a Second Language at the Community College, support families through parenting and grandparenting programs, and work in prison ministry. They participate in the building up of basic ecclesial communities through faith sharing and study of Scripture.

Each year the Chaparral community welcomes AMAs who live and work at Casa Maria Eugenia, the site of many of our programs and activities. These young people provide leadership to the youth of the area, help run the summer camps, teach in the local public schools, and often invent their own unique projects as well. They maintain a strong bond with the religious community not only through working together, but by eating regularly at the Sisters’ house, praying with the community, and enjoying leisure time together.
