Canonization of MOTHER marie eugenie

Final Letter from Canonization Committee, June 10, 2007

To the Sisters,
To the Alumnae/i,
To the Friends of the Assumption…
To all the Assumption

Rome, 10 June 2007
Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Very dear Sisters and dear Friends,

We are still thanking God for all we have witnessed at the Canonization of Saint Marie Eugenie of Jesus. The most marvelous thing is that we have all become witnesses of this great gift of God. Your letters and your messages express this and all those who have not been able to go to Rome feel the same joy. On TV they saw the ceremony much better than we did and they share with us who went to Rome, details that we were not able to see and we share with them what we heard and experienced. Thus we create a marvelous communication link and together we write a magnificent page of our history.

We have already forgotten the rain!!! Yet it marked well our celebration because almost everywhere we hear people say: ‘rainy ceremony, generous canonization’. In any case, the splendid Youth Night was like a great ray of sun that dried up what was still wet… We felt the warmth of being Assumption Together. You should have seen with what joy the President of the Philippines, the President of Mexico and his wife enjoyed seeing the number of their respective country and how they applauded for the others. There was a real fraternal atmosphere and a real friendship could be felt among us.

Already the local celebrations are beginning and joy will continue to be spread. May Saint Marie Eugenie of Jesus grant us the grace to continue or to begin our own path to holiness at the heart of our daily lives.

Today we are writing our last letter as a Canonization Commission. We would like to express our immense gratitude to each and all for your support and your affection throughout the time of preparation for the canonization of M. Marie Eugenie of Jesus. We would like to thank especially all those who generously and unsparingly gave of their time and the energy through:

• the work of communication and the Press which was very important and which demanded a lot of availability and know-how, of knowing what to say, what to write, what to communicate…and the creation and updating of the web page on the Canonization …

• the preparation of all the liturgical celebrations – looking for the venue, formation of the choir from the four corners of the world, collaboration with the organists, musicians, composers…very often through e-mail which was used to the maximum.

• The montage of the magnificent Youth Night in homage to M. Marie Eugenie of Jesus, the steps taken to organize the technicalities of the Sala Nervi, the creation of a program with the participation of all the Provinces, the production done with a lot of taste, creativity, simplicity and enthusiasm.

• The organization of the pilgrimage and the elaboration of the Pilgrim’s Booklet which was a real help to everyone, a “small treatise of spirituality” as some called it, the exposition on the Assumption…

• All the work of translation, of preparation of the kits, the replies to the many questions, requests, that came our way…

• The friends of the Assumption of Italy who, together with the Sisters, did a fabulous work of preparation of logistics, of contacting the authorities of the city of Rome, of arranging for the buses for the groups that needed them, the welcome at the airports, the delivery of the kits to the hotels…

• The immense task of obtaining the visas. Regarding this no one can imagine what this implied, at times successfully at other times unsuccessfully.

• The search for places of welcome that were simple yet welcoming, adapted to each group…

• The “hidden and efficacious” work, as well as the availability of our archivist, Sr Therese Maylis, who passionately and determinedly went through the roads of history, of the Congregation and of the Milleret family.

We cannot forget to thank the Province of Italy for its collaboration at all times. The Community of Quadraro (Rome) accompanied us with their prayers day after day and put at our disposal everything we needed to accomplish our mission.

The list of thanks could be extended but the most important is that if the preparation of the canonization was a “success” it was due to the participation of all. Thank you for this beautiful experience of working together with joy, competence, the gift of self without measure.

We have only to tell you now how happy we are to have lived these four months “for M. Marie Eugenie” so that the Assumption on earth may be a place of glory for God. The Assumption of heaven did a marvelous job in accompanying us in the work!!! Once more the “two Assumptions” were but one.

Now we have to continue our journey carrying in our hearts the words of Marie Eugenie…

Whether we are young or old, let us strive for an abandonment without reserve which will open our souls to an ardent desire for the extension of His Kingdom. May we devote ourselves to this with all our strength, following the example of the Apostles of whom we think during this Eastertide… Where did they obtain strength? From their union with their divine Master. They taught the Gospel and they became themselves the living expression of that Gospel. Jesus Christ lived in them and everything in their being proclaimed Him. Let us also work to express Jesus Christ in our lives. Let us receive from Him what we are to give to others. Let us abandon ourselves without reserve, striving to contribute, according to our humble means, to extend His Reign. Let us strive – each according to our vocation – to become apostles. (MME, 2 May 1884)

With all our gratitude and deep communion in fraternal affection,

Katrin, María Paola et Cristina María
